What Does Good Look Like?

2/14/2025

We have a great candidate in process with one of our clients.

Terrific fit, validated by the client.

He’s poised for change, and the move makes sense.

“But we want to see others, before we make a decision”.

Hiring manager FOMO.

There is no doubt, hiring is arguably the most important decision that a hiring manager can make.

I understand the FOMO.

But when you have a 98% match, it’s going to be very hard to find someone better.

And if we do find that person, are you ready to open the pocket books?

As a general rule in life … there is always a better candidate.

There is always a better seller.

There is always a better engineer, a better CEO, VP of Sales, etc.

But when you have constraints, such as location, salary bands, timing, life events, etc. … it’s virtually impossible to hit 100% matches in hiring.

Even 85% is excellent.

If you know what good looks like … and they are sitting on your doorstep, and you have a need …

Open the door, and invite them into your organization.

Quickly.

Before it gets too cold outside.

And … knowing what good looks like … that is a distinguishing trait actually for managers …

The ones who can ‘see it’ … they are just a bit better than those who cannot.

Still cold outside here in the, ‘D’.

9-22 degrees, and just a peak of sunshine, mid-morning.

Make it a great day, everyone!
