Spin Answers
8/21/2024
Because interviewing is very much a game, with certain rules to follow, you may have to give some spin to answers along the way.
Why are you leaving?
If you are in a toxic workplace, with a micro-manager, it’s tough to be fully transparent here because the interviewer may assume you are the problem … you may have to say, “I’m looking for my next challenge, and am interested to learn more about the culture of this company and I am extremely motivated to work for great managers”.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
It’s sometimes hard to say for sure where you see yourself, you may have plans for grad school or something else. You may hope to be with the company in 5 years as well. But the right answer of course is to say that you hope to grow for several years in this position with this company and in 5 years you see yourself with this company. This is the only answer that gives you a chance at getting the job offer.
To be clear, it’s never a good idea to lie, but it’s ok to spin the answer so that the interviewer doesn’t form judgments against you unnecessarily.
And that’s just part of the game that is called interviewing.
51-74, sunshine, just perfect.
Make it a great day, everyone!
