Short-Term Thinking

4/24/2024

Some of the candidate responses this week:

“I want this job, because it’s more money”.

“I don’t want this job, because it’s not remote”.

“I don’t want this job, because it’s not enough money”.

“I want this job because it’s remote”.

Money and location (remote, in-office, hybrid), continues to dominate the decision-making matrix.

Black and white short-term outcomes, easy to read.

A longer-term outlook would also consider other factors such as challenge, stability, advancement potential, and the back end career exit.

I always encourage a view of both the long-term and short-term when making decisions, especially career decisions.

But realistically, many companies have taken away long-term decision making options, because of their willingness and ability to lay people off.

Because of this, the hiring market has largely become a short-term game.

Curious to get your thoughts as well.

39-50, sunshine.

Make it a great day, everyone!
