Private Equity

7/26/2024

Ho hum, ran into another person yesterday that lost his job unexpectedly. Private equity … purchase and slash.

He had a 1 minute call with the Legal representative … “your services are no longer needed, you get a 2 weeks severance, benefits are over but you can purchase COBRA, we’ll send you a letter … click”.

The business world has changed … and not for the better.

Transaction, short-term spin for $, worker appreciation lost, lives ruined.

The finance people … they make their $ … and on to the next.

The influence of private equity has grown in business of all sizes, and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. There’s more $ on the sideline than in the game right now.

It’s an 80/20 mix per my un-scientific calculations … 80% of the time it’s a negative outcome, except for maybe a couple of people on the buying and selling sides who make huge pay days.

The negatives include people getting laid off unexpectedly, resources pulled from the business, and short-term cost cutting moves.

20% of the time … some $ is infused into the business that helps propel it forward.

The private equity characters are the ones to tune into, if your company has been purchased by private equity.

What is their track record? How do they operate? Long-term focused or short-term? Who is the key private equity person that has influence over the company?

If you aren’t able to obtain this information … then it may be time to start looking … statistically speaking that is … because the private equity people likely are not focused on how they can improve employee well-being …. their charge may only be to get a quick $ return on what they just bought …

60-81, sunshine.

Make it a great day, everyone!
