Overcommunication

1/17/2023

We’re a few years into the remote and hybrid work environment that has taken over the world of work.

Here is my biggest suggestion for people who work remotely.

It’s critically important to overcommunicate internally with your manager.

And with your team.

If you have questions.

If you need support.

If you accomplished something, big or small.

If someone else did something great.

If something is taking you away from your desk.

Reach out.

Let people know.

If you choose remote work, it’s largely on you to take the initiative to tell others about what is happening in your work life.

And to participate as a team member, even if not together in the office.

Beginning of day plans and end of day accomplishments.

Pop in phone calls and texts to the manager.

Scheduled catch up calls.

Etc.

Managers want to know what is going on in your work world ……. they need to know.

Because managers are busy, it’s hard for them to always seek you out.

And some managers may be hesitant to always reach out to remote workers, just to get status updates.

Be proactive, and get the word out.

It’ll help you forge strong relationships with your manager …. which is not a bad thing to do.

Fog today in SE.

But we’re pushing forward!

Make it a great day, everyone.
