Near-Shoring – Where?
10/17/2023
The covid pandemic … if it did anything … was turn American companies back to a near-shoring initiative.
The supply challenges were too disruptive in Asia.
Just a couple of years into this initiative, the single biggest challenge with this movement has quickly reared itself.
Labor.
There is a shortage of labor in the US market.
It’s being highlighted now in all of the labor strikes throughout America.
Automation certainly has displaced much of the labor challenges, and it will continue to do so.
But people working with their hands, and moving machines will always be needed for a strong manufacturing market.
The current UAW strike is taking not only the OEMs but also their suppliers to their limits.
So what will be interesting is what the counter-moves will be for these companies over the next few years.
Keep paying more for US Labor?
Or will there be yet another shift in manufacturing?
To Mexico, perhaps.
I’d be curious to get your thoughts below.
43-60, and clouds.
Make it a great day, everyone!
