Modern Leadership

1/3/2025

Have you been able to watch the college football playoff?

It’s a fun new wrinkle in the modern world of high stakes game of college football.

A sport where money for universities, coaches, and now players is at the forefront of the conversation in what once was an amateur sport, where college students played for their coach and their school.

But like most things in the world today, the sport has become monetized unlike anything we could have imagined just a few years ago.

What has been a breath of fresh air for me, as a traditional college football fan, is watching the Notre Dame Team lead by Marcus Freeman.

In the midst of all the blitz and bright lights and big pay days being made, the players at Notre Dame are playing for Freeman, their teammates, and their school.

Not for the money.

Not for the draft.

Not for the transfer portal.

But simply, an old school traditional college football mentality.

His leadership style is to give credit to the players and coaches and not himself.

He’s humble, a gentleman, respectful to the media, respectful to the opponents, owns his mistakes and shortcomings, and is just an all-around first class guy.

There is a short list of coaches leading major programs these days with these qualities.

Of course I am biased!

But even if you are not a Notre Dame fan, Freeman’s approach is worthy of respect. And his leadership style, is one to model after.

23-25, snow, sun, clouds.

Make it a great day, everyone!
