Legacy

9/27/2024

Last week Jill and I were on our nightly walk with Bandit and Swiper and we stopped to speak with some friends.

Their sweet, innocent 12 year old boy came over and asked if he could pet the dogs. It was a nice moment seeing their son peacefully interact with our pets.

I joked to the father, “this is your sign to get a dog”.

This young boy passed away yesterday, after suffering a serious injury from a fallen tree while away with school classmates on a field trip.

How? Why?

Surreal.

A close friend just lost his father, two days ago, after some time in hospice. He lived a full life into his 90’s and leaves behind a wonderful, loving family.

Another close friend has a father who is in his mid 80’s and has just entered hospice, a full and meaningful life with a wonderful family.

The condolences and the suffering are not for me, but for the families of the deceased.

Each of us knows of someone who was loved and recently passed away.

If they were lucky, they will have lived a full life and have a meaningful story to be left behind.

We know others who are suffering for a variety of reasons.

We all struggle.

But we also have opportunity to impact this world.

To build a legacy that lasts.

Here’s to taking our best shot at work, and with our families.

Because we just never know when our time may run out.

Each day matters.

Let’s make today a great one.
