We spoke recently with an engineering candidate who has an offer in hand with General Motors, to start in January.

This person has gone through the interview process with them over the course of 6 – 8 weeks.

And during this exact interview process, GM was in the process of laying off 1,000 engineers!

And they laid off another 1,000 engineers, two months earlier.

How does that math add up exactly??

There had to be some in that group of 1,000, who could have done the job similarly to this new hire. And there are obviously other engineers going in, while the 1,000 were given their walking papers, where the same could be said.


The world of work has become ruthless … decisions made in a group email, that impact families and lives of 1,000’s ……

Just keep trying your best … stay connected to the people making the decisions … it’s all you can do.

And keep your options open, when a friendly industry focused recruiter gives you a call!

I can’t help but wonder, what Jim Mora may have said to this layoff nonsense? LAYOFFS??!!!!! …. We can’t make it with LAYOFFS ….

Speaking of Playoffs … the Lions are in … what a game last night … I’ll never get fully used to all of the 4th down attempts from Dan the River Boat Gambler Campbell … at least when they don’t convert.
