Interview Compensation Escalation

12/3/2024

We had a candidate with a base salary expectation of $110K at the beginning of the process, inflate it to $125K at the end of the interview process.

Happens all the time.

We know this.

And we know how to properly defuse the situation with clients who are often times taken aback … ‘this is not the Great Resignation’ they say ….

Without the right recruiter handling the process, the chances of candidate and client coming together often dissipates quickly, because clients don’t like compensation shenanigans that candidates sometimes play.

Internal HR people and hiring managers have reputations, and internally they lose face when trying to hire candidates who inflate their compensation from the beginning of the interview process, to the end of the process (it’s all on record).

Sure, inflation is a hot topic, but it didn’t go up 15% in the last 2 weeks.

If you’re looking for a new position … (which statistically over 60%-70% of employees are poised to do in 2025) … put your big number out there on the front end of the process … it may negate your chance to interview, but it’ll give you a great idea of where the client stands on compensation and if your big number is viable.

22-35, sunshine.

Make it a great day, everyone!

Saw ‘Wicked’ recently with the family. Good movie to watch. It’s very interesting when you see the connection to the ‘Wizard of Oz’ and how their timelines intersect.

Elpheba – the Wicked Witch, is the daughter of ‘Oz’

Nessarose – Elpheba’s sister, dies in the ‘storm’ and her magic shoes are the ones that Dorothy took

Lion Cub – Is set free by Elpheba and Fiyero, and becomes the Cowardly Lion

Boq – Is put under a spell accidentally after breaking up with Nessarose, his heart is taken away, and he becomes the Tin Man

Fiyero – Gets a spell put on him and he becomes the Scarecrow
