International Women’s Day

03/08/2023

Today is International Women’s Day, and it’s been celebrated each March 8th, since 1911.

As a father of 3 daughters, I can only hope that they receive equal opportunity and pay in their chosen lines of work, but according to the International Women’s Day website, only 58% of the opportunity and economic gap has been closed so far.

At the current rate of progress, it will be 132 years until the playing field has been neutralized.

According to the Pew Research Center, in 2022 women in the USA earn 82% of what their male peer group does for the same work performed and this number has held constant for the past 20 years.

Promoting equality for women is not a zero-sum game.

It’s not a competition against men.

Instead, it’s as simple as paying a woman the same as what a man receives if given the same type of role.

It’s giving a woman an opportunity if she’s qualified and meets the criteria instead of not doing so, just because of her gender.

Mothers, daughters, wives, aunts, nieces, cousins, friends … they deserve a fair shot.

I’m proud that 90% of the associates brought into SCN – Search Consulting Network over the past 2 years are dedicated, intelligent, and motivated professionals who happen to be women, and we have promoted several women associates as well.

Hopefully this day of recognition creates some awareness to push the ball a little more forward and help women along in your personal and professional lives if you have the opportunity to do so.

And for the women of SCN, keep on rocking and I look forward to celebrating our Women’s Day Lunch with you next week!

Another chilly day here in SE-MI, but the days are expanding and the sun is peaking through more regularly … I’ll take it.

Make it a great day, everyone!
