Finding the Glue

3/11/2025
We have a client who is interviewing for an advanced manufacturing sales position, and they have two finalists.
One of the candidates is earlier in their career.
Another candidate is mid-career.
The client has always preferred earlier career candidates, to build for the future. To build a bench of future leaders as much of their workforce will be retiring in the next few years.
The problem, is that all of the early career candidates they have hired recently, have already left the company.
Jumping quick, to another position that pays a bit more, without hesitation.
Not one ounce of thought about the future.
So now the company is leaning toward the mid-career candidate, who projects the hope at least of more stability in the organization.
There is no easy answer as a hiring manager in the ever changing world of work.
Companies need people for the future.
But they also need people to stick more than a year, to offer any real value for the future.
So you want to be a hiring manager?
There is opportunity both ways, for companies and people who can get sticky with each other early-on.
Just have to figure out the best formula for the glue, and it can’t always be just money.
46-55 degrees, sunshine.
Make it a great day, everyone!
