Expenses: 2023, 2024

12/9/2024

Companies have watched expenses in 2023 and 2024, the years of the CFO.

Trying to cut back as much as possible, and squeeze everywhere.

Gotta hit the quarterly number.

An area where the short-term focus on cutting expenses is going to hurt the employers, is with employee satisfaction … dissatisfaction, actually.

Last week we heard from several candidates who were motivated to change their job because their employers were ‘too unrealistic’.

One person was promoted in January of 2024 and the company never backfilled his replacement … had to do both jobs, all year long. Still no sign of the replacement being filled.

Another person was covering a sales territory in addition to his own for a person who left their company, and it has lasted several months … company has not made any serious moves to hire the backfill open position.

Short-term focused cost cutting moves such as these never payoff in the long-term.

2025 may turn into the year of recruiting with all of the people poised to change jobs … the year of the VP of Human Resources.

I’m curious if you’ve seen people in the workplace get squeezed with taking on additional work, as a good solider move?

The sports world is always entertaining, notable TOSU alum Kirk Herbstreit’s son committed to UM, baseball player Juan Soto signed for $765M which is the richest deal in sports history, and Notre Dame will be hosting a College Football Playoff Game on Friday December 20th v. the Indiana Hoosiers (I was sure hoping they’d play a team from the south … welcome to South Bend in December … ha).

42-50, and rain, rain, rain … feels like March.

Make it a great day, everyone!
