I caught up with an automotive vice president of sales over the weekend.

Some of the sales people on his team are struggling … brainstorming, what should he do.
Here’s an over simplistic perspective of management to consider.
If they are motivated and doing their job well … get out of their way and just touch them as needed to offer support. Tune into their personal and professional ‘wants’ and deliver for them here.
If people on the team are not doing their job well, there are only 2 reasons why.
1. They don’t know how to do it
2. They don’t want to do it
See if you can work with the person to figure it out and if not, they are probably not suited for the role … ideally you can transfer them to a different role that is a better match.
There are tons of details in between here!
But it created some good dialogue, and he’s off and running with his inspection into the problems at hand.
