Choosing Your Poison

9/3/2024

“The manager is really interested in an early career individual and we are capping out the high end of the compensation range at X$”.

OK, we can get you this person.

Interview.

He’s exactly what we want.

Hire.

A few months later … we had to let the early career individual go … they were fired.

He asked too many questions and needed too much daily direction.

Force hiring based on compensation as the main requirement can work, as long as the manager is willing to train and develop the person.

We need someone in this position that could just do the job without asking any questions.

You mean a higher-priced candidate with more experience.

OK, we can get you this person.

Choosing your poison …

There is always a cost in hiring … either training and development or in the price paid for experience.

Either option can work … but if you go the early career route … training, development, and patience are typically needed for sustainable employment.

54-80, sunshine. Perfect.

Make it a great day, everyone!
