Checklist for Checking Out
7/19/2023
We placed a candidate recently who was working, but also willing to start the new position with less than a week’s notice.
Hold on we told him.
We know that you’re ready to roll, but there never isn’t a time to do it the right way.
Your personal brand and reputation is always at stake in the world of work.
It’s a great opportunity to leave with a positive, lasting impression.
Here’s a quick resignation checklist.
1. The Actual Resignation
Always give at least 2 weeks of notice
Try to do it F2F
Always provide a resignation letter – best if printed out, concise, and professional
Thank them and ask for the detailed process to follow for the next 2 weeks
2. The 2 Weeks
Do what the managers ask
Hand over 100% of the work, no loose ends
Go above and beyond
Over-communicate
Personally touch and speak with everyone you worked with
Don’t bad mouth the company
Tell them you are not open to counter-offers (many will not heed this warning, but it is perhaps the most important thing to do)
3. The Last Day
Make it clean and get the sign-off to depart
Clean is always the way when breaking up.
63-82 and sunshine.
Make it a great day, everyone!
