Auction Negotiating

1/24/2025

Imagine an auction, the auctioneer may start at $500 for an item, then:

$700
$900
$1,000
$1,5000
$2,000
$3,000

$3,000, going once, twice … sold!

Sometimes clients try to do it, by putting out low offers, and auctioning up.

Our most recent fun experience was with a candidate who was offered $80K.

Then because she used to make more $ in a job that she was let go from a few years ago, she countered with:

$105K
$100K
$99K
$95K

She tried to keep going.

But the client checked out long ago.

The reason … is because they’d never meet her expectations.

‘Wait. ..is the job still available? ….. I’ll take $86K!’

It was not the right fit, which happens frequently in interviewing.

Typically 3-4% is the most that companies will negotiate during the offer acceptance process, and most times not even this much.

But if you want to auction negotiate, it’s your prerogative, it’s just not likely to end well.

10-22, cold, and some sunshine peeking through.

Make it a great day, everyone!
