Not in a ‘Visa’ or ‘Green Card’ sense.

But do you have people that have a vested interest in your success in your organization?

Do they want you to do well?

Do they support you in your development, and also give you the freedom to grow on your timeline, and manage your personal life happenings that always come up?

Do they have your back?


This is political capital. Takes time, several years typically to get it in place.

Meaningful business relationships.

It’s worth quite a bit in the business world, probably even more than a short-term bump in pay to start new (and this is coming from someone who has built a career in the placement business).

I know of someone who left their position recently who had incredible sponsorship with their management team.

The managers were a bit shocked at the departure, because the person left for a similar position, without the upside and without the relationships in place.

Overall, didn’t make sense.

But, life goes on, business goes on.

And just a bit more validation that the remote world of work is quickly becoming the most transient world of work in our lifetime.

Just be sure you’re not leaving too many good friends who care about your career success behind when you decide to go.
