Appropriation of Funds

2/10/2025
Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450M contract in 2020, and it served him and the Chiefs well for a few years.
They had just enough to hold onto the dynasty status, as they made it to several AFC championships in a role, and multiple Super Bowls.
The starting QB is just one player on a 53 man roster, albeit the most important person.
But not if the line can’t block.
Or if the receivers can’t break man coverage.
Or if the corners can’t cover the WRs.
The Chiefs represent a team that will need to make changes structurally, in letting a lot of high price veterans go, and rebuild with younger, less expensive players, to make a broad impact across the entire team in support of Mahomes.
This is what the Eagles have done. They have a highly paid QB as well, in Jalen Hurts, but they’ve also got a roster of young, talented players whose contracts haven’t reached their peak levels yet.
And it showed, with their dominance over the Chiefs yesterday in the Super Bowl. More good players at more positions.
Corporations frequently let go higher paid employees who have been with the company for many years, and in turn, hire new, fresh faces, who command a lot less in salary.
Rinse, and repeat.
The cycle of organization right-sizing.
It’s brutal, but I don’t think the cycle will change anytime soon, in the unrelenting world of organizational push for efficiency.
11-29 degrees here in SE-MI, this am. The run of extremely cold weather continues, but a bad sign is that I didn’t feel too cold getting out of the car this am, I’m getting used to it.
Make it a great day, everyone!
