A Bird in the Hand ….

3/7/2025
We came across a great candidate who is a fit for one of our openings that pays a Base Salary compensation of $150K.
The candidate used to make a Base Salary of $185K, before being let go from their position a few months back.
Back on the hunt for a new position.
“My Base is $185K though”….
One of the toughest things in the hiring market is when a great employee, who has many good years of experience and earned a high salary, is let go from a position.
It’s not impossible to jump in at a similar compensation level after getting let go from a position.
But if the Base Salary used to be above $170K, it is rare to find that base level again when looking for a new position …. maybe a 10% – 15% chance based on what I’ve seen over the past few years.
There are fewer positions that pay higher salaries, and fewer companies willing to pay a high salary for someone from the outside, as opposed to promoting someone upward, internally.
Only you can determine what you are willing to accept when it comes to job offers.
Your compensation options though, will be determined by the market, not by what you were accustomed to making before.
A bird in the hand is often times worth taking, especially if the opportunity for increase with exceptional performance is on the horizon.
The birds are starting to chirp a bit here in SE-MI, as the weather gets a bit warmer.
29-43 degrees today, sun and clouds.
Make it a great day, everyone!
