I Want More $Bank

5/8/2023

One of our recruiters vetted a candidate on Friday who is a great fit on paper (circa 1993, should we be saying ‘on screen’ here in 2023)?

Phenomenal background on screen.

SCN: “So why are you looking”?

Candidate: “I want more money”.

SCN: “OK, how much are you making”?

Candidate: “$100K”.

SCN: “That’s pretty good for your level of experience. Do you like your job”?

Candidate: “Yes”

SCN: “Do you like your manager, the culture, the advancement potential, the stability”?

Candidate: “Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes”.

We respectfully backed away from this candidate.

“This one isn’t a good fit”.

We were kind enough not to ask, “So you want a counter-offer”?

Leaving a position because one is under-compensated compared to the market is a justifiable reason for change.

But if everything is in place including the $, searching for more money only, is a race to nowhere.

Counter-offers lead to animosity within the company.

I and I wish we had a $1 for every person the left because of $ only and then called us right back up, “I have to leave, I made a mistake”.

The $money is always attractive.

Sometimes it takes a few go arounds to learn these concepts.

Do good work … the $ should take care of itself.

50-67, some sun. Getting there.

Make it a great one!
