Happy New Year

1/2/2024

In the present day, innovation and advancements are being made in industries across the board. From improvements in consumer electronics to new technology being used to help make decisions in sports, the changes are rapid and seem limitless.

The engineering world is no different, and arguably the industry that is responsible for enabling many of the changes/improvements to be made in other industries. With 2024 officially upon us, there are some major milestones to keep an eye on as the year progresses.

While there are numerous and many important milestones to be achieved in the upcoming year (all listed in article below), a couple that stood out to me were Air Taxis being deployed at the 2024 Summer Olympics and the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency beginning a competition to develop sensors and algorithms to support triage efforts during mass casualty incidents. The Air Taxis are vertical-take-off-and-landing vehicles, or eVTOLs and were created by Volocopter, and the triage tech from the U.S. Defense Agency’s competition will be used for two main stages of treatment: determining which patients are in most critical need primarily, and then determining the best course of action for stabilized, non-critical patients.

These advancements are not only entertaining and intriguing, but have limitless real world benefits. I will surely be keeping my eye on the progress being made in the engineering space and the world as whole.

Looking forward to an impactful 2024!
