PLANT MANAGER – North Chicago, IL
Our client is a famly owned and operated manufacturing organization who specialize in contract precision machining.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Management
- Develop and execute production schedules to meet customer demands and delivery timelines.
- Monitor production metrics (cycle time, scrap rates, downtime) and adjust as necessary.
- Oversee the setup and operation of CNC / screw machines and other shop equipment.
TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Lead a team of screw machine operators, setup technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- Provide coaching, manage performance, and resolve conflicts.
- Promote a collaborative and safety-conscious work culture.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in production and implement process improvements.
- Evaluate and integrate new technologies or methods to optimize operations.
Quality Control
- Ensure product meets engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Conduct safety audits and training sessions regularly.
Equipment Maintenance
- Schedule and coordinate repairs, preventive maintenance, and upgrades.
- Manage tooling inventory and ensure proper setups.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- 5+ years in a Plant / Floor Manager or similar leadership role, preferably in a job shop environment.
- Strong background in screw machining, CNC, or precision manufacturing.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with production planning software and quality tools (e.g., Six Sigma, lean manufacturing).
Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across teams and with clients.
- Leadership style that balances accountability with employee development.
Problem-Solving
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands.
- Data-driven approach to identifying and resolving inefficiencies.
Hands-On Mindset
- Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and engage directly with operations when needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Experience with ERP or MRP systems.
- Familiarity with ISO standards or other quality certifications.
- Spanish language fluency a plus
