Manufacturing Quality – Mutually Beneficial Values – Employers, Recruiters and Candidates

Search Consulting Network’s (SCN) Judy Schuetz had a discussion with a West Michigan manufacturing, quality, and operations leader William E Church III (Bill) related service to the customer through alignment of shared values during the recruitment and hiring process. During the discussion Judy and Bill concluded that honesty/integrity, open-mindedness and willingness are common values that promote service to the customer in all business types.

Employers have customers, new and returning. No one can deny that without customers there is not a business. If firms do not have people empowered and passionate about serving customers, that business will struggle to grow. The question then becomes how do employers identify, hire and retain employees that want to serve customers while owners and management teams grow their businesses? Identifying, hiring and retaining employees requires the same core values that attract and keep long term customer relationships, honesty/integrity, open-mindedness and willingness.

For example, SCN has many new and returning clients. For SCN to have grown into the successful search firm they have become, relationships based on these core values have been critical. People in my role as an SCN Search Consultant, perform risk assessments daily to ensure that that SCN is providing candidates to potential employers that possess honesty/integrity, open-mindedness and willingness.

Likewise, the potential candidates themselves look for these values in places like SCN and employers. Employees want to know that they can share risks to the customer and to the employer with honesty and integrity.  They are open to alternative ways of serving the customer and willing to go the extra mile to uphold the standard language in most manufacturing quality statements, “meet or exceed customer expectations.”

Bill and I each agree that honesty/integrity, open-mindedness and willingness are common values that promote service to the customer in all business types. Additionally, these values directly impact the growth of the business and the retention of its customers. When there is alignment of these values from the employer, the search firm and the employee, the customer is represented 100% of the time and all parties succeed. Value the people throughout your value chain/network that have honesty/integrity, open-mindedness and willingness as they are a priceless commodity.
